i don't know that there's a category i haven't worked on. outerwear, plastics, sweaters, socks... i've had a lot of great designs in my 15 years, here are some i'm most proud of
legging designs, tights and nylons. for almost 4 years i worked on the nordstrom legwear category both as a designer, and as an editor for third party product selection. usually designing original designs into a line plan, and then selecting from vendors to round out the assortment. fabrications included: stretch denim, ponte, stretch velvet, seamless. applications: sequins, studs, foil, flocking, printed
with almost 7 years working on kids product, if it's something a kid would wear, i've most likely designed it. from babies to big kid, i've covered all aspects of the category, and every fabrication- woven, knit, sweater, and pj specific fabrics with regulated requirements. i love the creativity that can go into designing for children, and always relished the 'anything goes' idea for artwork and pattern. trend research became a passion while working on this category, so much so, that even though i'm not currently designing any kids wear, i always have a board on pinterest going with current and innovative inspiration.
along with having been a designer for over 14 years, most of my pursuits outside of work are also creative. i enjoy a wide variety of making, and rarely feel intimidated tackling something new. sewing, embroidery, photography, drawing, painting and calligraphy are just a few of the hobbies i've maintained over the years. i also recently joined the local modern quilt guild, and teach sewing to high school students via an alternative learning non-profit.
each holiday season we came up with new designs that we thought would be great gift giving- the perfect pair of cozy slippers! i traveled to china one year to work on development- picking out yarns, embellishments and deciding the finishing touches to make these gifts extra special.
